Subject:So tired...
Posted by:aidan_morris.
Time:1:24 pm.
Mood: sleepy.
He was sore all over... And not in a good way, either. He'd found his father... Or, more appropriately, his father had found him. Garrett Morris was the kind of being you didn't want as an enemy... Then again, Aidan wasn't someone you wanted as an enemy either! The encounter hadn't gone the way either of them had wanted it to...

Aidan had survived.

But so had Garrett.

The cost had been high for both of them... Garrett had lost a good many of his servants, while Aidan had lost something more personal and precious.

Somewhere along the way, Aidan lost his humanity.

Everything pained him now...

He hadn't gone out in weeks.

He couldn't even use moonlight to see, because it hurt his overly sensitive eyes.

He ate the meat in his icebox raw, because cooking made him cringe away in pain.

He had to shield his skin from the moon because it left searing lesions that were red and raw in moments.

He couldn't even make a holo-vid call because touching the buttons broke open the skin on his fingertips.

Aidan hadn't become JUST a vampire.

He'd become something far worse...

Aidan was a Shadow Kindred, a vampire that lived for the shadows and hid themselves as much as possible because even moonlight and sources of artificial illumination caused them extreme pain.

But what they had in common with their light tolerant cousins was a need for blood...

And for Aidan, it was feeding time.

Subject:Wandering

Time:6:39 pm.
Mood: creative.
Running a hand along the wall she was walking next to she studied everything around her. She had only been here in Mechanix for a short time and she had yet to find a place here. Her bangs curled under her chin as she sighed softly. The sounds of the city surrounded her, everyone had a place to be, a job to do and she was the odd one out.

"Why did I even bother coming to this city?" She wondered to herself, but she knew why. She was no longer welcome in the city that she'd grown up in, her family had turned their backs on her when they'd discovered that she was different from them. She'd hidden what she'd become from them, but it had only lasted so long. Her mother had been the first to find out, then shortly her father and then brothers. Shuddering she remembered the day that they all told her to pack her things and leave. The looks in their eyes as she regarded her as a monster. Well, she was a monster in a way wasn't she? Shaking her head she stopped walking and leaned back against the wall, her eyes closing as she heard the words once again echoing in her head.

"You not the daughter we once had, you're nothing now but a monster." Her mother and father had both said.

"Just get out and leave, if you ever come back we'll kill you. Our sister is dead in our eyes and you are nothing."

She'd flown out of the house without taking her things with her, let them burn everything. She had wanted nothing that would remind her of the family that had cast her out.

Now she was here, trying to shove away the hurt that her family had given her. Her heart was beginning to turn cold, she swore to herself that she would never let anyone get close to her, never trust anyone. But what did a vampire need to trust someone for?

Pushing herself away from the wall she began to walk again, listening to all of the sounds around her but not looking at anything. She'd heard about a club in the city called Immortal Club and that was where she was heading. Maybe she could watch others around her and just get the feel of this place.

Finding the club she stepped inside slowly and made her way to the back, finding a darkened corner where she could sit and watch the door. Her eyes moved this way and that, keeping her energy tightly wrapped inside of her body she kept a sigh from passing her lips as she leaned back in the chair, crossing one leg over the other. Maybe this city would welcome her, so far it was definately not like her home town. And she liked knowing that at least here no one knew her or what she was.

Mood: discontent.
WhiteArrow had displeased her master. She had deliberately disobeyed him and failed to report Aidan's presence in Mechanix. But he hadn't caught her out yet. So she was free to roam the streets and communicate in code to her new ally. Neither of them knew their true destiny... She put her palm on Aidan's scanner and waited. It scanned her hand and let her in. But she couldn't get past the front door. She was a welcomed guest, nothing more.

Aidan stretched and winced at the twinge in his back, then looked up at the sound of a soft dual toned chime. It didn't show him who was standing on his front step... Only a hominid outline. He grunted and whacked the panel to admit the visitor into the front foyer. He disappeared into the bathroom as it cycled open for his guest to come in, coming back out after tugging on a pale blue shirt and combing his hair into some semblance of order. When he saw who it was, he stopped in his tracks. His voice retained a semblance of his sardonic sarcasm...

"To what do I owe the dubious pleasure of this visit?"

She laughed softly, the sound oddly soothing and calming.

"I am merely passing on a bit of advice from those who survived the attack on Keegan's."

"I heard about that... How's everyone taking it?"

"They are not happy... The few that escaped reported hearing a soft hissing in the background."

"A soft hissing? What was it, a Naga?"

She stopped and looked at him. She hadn't considered one of the Snake People... The dumbfounded look in her eyes spoke volumes.

"I came across one in the woods the other night... She all but admitted they were everywhere. Wouldn't surprise me if one of them had been in the area that night."

"I never considered them. Perhaps you should mention this to the Night Patrol."

He snorted derisively and disappeared into the kitchen, coming out with two bottles of spring water.

"They wouldn't believe me if I did. They think it was the Were-Rats working on their own."

She took the offered bottle and took a healthy sip. Always good water... She thoroughly enjoyed it. Then she scowled at Aidan's assertion that his employers wouldn't believe him about the Naga.

"Surely they would..."

"No, they wouldn't."

He sighed and dragged his free hand through his hair, revealing the sharply pointed ears, then flopped down on the nearby couch. WhiteArrow watched him through narrowed eyes, watching closely for signs of fatigue or stress. The poor man fairly RADIATED stress!

"Why not?"

"I don't work for them any more... My former partner got me fired."

"That's terrible."

"Not really... It was either fire me or have me drummed out for physical abuse."

She quirked a brow.

"Physical abuse?"

He sat up and looked right at her.

"I wanted to beat the holy hell out of my former partner."

"What is his name?"

"Bourbon Delfour."

She made a mental note of that, then moved to sit near the mongrel she'd taken in as an ally. He was so weary... She suddenly recalled a bit of lore and swore softly. He didn't even look at her as he leaned back and closed his eyes.

"When was the last time you slept all night?"

"I can't remember."

"Aidan, this is important."

"I really can't remember... The last few weeks have been a big blur."

He sat up and looked at her.

"Why are you asking anyway?"

Slowly, deliberately, she pushed her hair back to expose the sharply pointed ears, slanted eyebrows and nearly translucent skin on her face and neck. The structure of her face... The sparkle in her eyes... The faded sunburst tattoo on her right shoulder... The bottle fell from lax fingers to roll into a steri-field and was returned to the kitchen.

"No..."

"Yes. Rather unfortunate for you, dear Aidan, to be related to a shaitaliach." (Shamed one.)

"How...?"

She sighed and finished her water before answering him.

"We share a father. His shame is ours to share."

Aidan leaned back again and absently rubbed the stone in his pocket. She saw his hand and inhaled sharply.

"What is it?"

"You haven't broken the stone?"

"No. I haven't had a need to."

"Now you do. Break it and revel in the truths that are revealed to you."

"This is an Answer stone, not a Truth stone."

But he pulled it out and studied it anyway. WhiteArrow traced the sigil in the air in front of her and sighed sadly when it sparked and flashed.

"Break the stone, Aidan... You need the information it contains."

He stood up and went to break it when he was overcome by another wave of dizziness just like the one that had swept over him at Scarlet Desires. The stone slid out of his hand and came to rest on the couch cushion near his leg. WhiteArrow leaped forward and pushed him back into the soft cushions. Then she cupped his hand around the stone and smashed it on the steel frame of the couch. The images that flooded his mind left him writhing and grasping for a lifeline. He was seeing his own birth... But the man in attendance wasn't his father!

"Will they live?" Cold and dispassionate.

"Yes."

"Good. Give him this stone when he's old enough. He will find someone to help him learn what must be learned."

A blank look, then a nod at the sight of the stone.

"What will you name him?"

"Aidan."

"Is there a meaning?"

"Yes. The name is pronounced Eyeden, and means Valiant Warrior."

Another nod, then a scripture above the babe's head. A flash, then nothing.

"Where will you go?"

"Away. He will not find the truth wherever he goes, but it will give him a path to travel."

Then the man walks away, head low. This is Aidan's true father... But he won't make it out of the village alive.

The images faded and Aidan gasped for air at this stunning revelation. WhiteArrow sat him up and held him until he could sit upright on his own.

"What is it?"

"I saw my birth... There was a man there, but he didn't look like the picture Mother showed me before she died."

"Can you describe him for me?"

Haltingly, Aidan drudged up the face he'd seen at the memory of his birth... When he was finished, she sat back with a frown.

"How certain are you that this man is your father?"

"I'm not... Everyone told me the picture Mother showed me was my father. But if the man here in Mechanix isn't my father..."

"Then the answer you seek is in the village you were born."

"I can't go back there. It was burned to the ground after I was sent to live with Mother's people."

She looked at him at that comment, then slowly sat on the floor.

"And all this time I assumed your father was the Elf."

"No. Mother was."

"Then if your mother was an Elf, and mine was, then..."

"Then you've been lied to."

"And so, I suspect, have you. The picture you were shown led you here, did it not?"

"It did."

"Then someone has deliberately altered records to make it appear as though we are kin!"

"Would that be so bad?"

She looked at him and smiled.

"No. I would rather you were my brother."

"Me too. Listen, I know someone who has access to information the likes of you and I will never see in our lifetimes... Want me to call her?"

"And tell her what?"

"That we need the truth about our heritage. She's a friend of mine."

WhiteArrow considered briefly, felt a pulse in her stomach that told her Garrett had discovered her perfidy, and made a decision.

"Call her."

"I'll do it now... You look like you're in for a world of hurt if he finds out where you are."

He was speaking on instinct now... But it was a good guess.

"I am. He knows I lied about your whereabouts. If he discovers you've broken your Answer Stone, he will surely kill us both."

Aidan sprang from the couch and keyed in Emerson's link code. He pushed a key and left the following message:

"Em, it's Aidan. Listen, I need your help. Things aren't what we thought they were. Get back to me as soon as you can, okay?"

He stored the message for her and went back to where WhiteArrow trembled on his couch. She looked up at the hand on her shoulder.

"I should leave. If he finds me here..."

His lips thinned into an almost invisible line and he made up his mind. Going over to a panel on his wall, he activated the bio-filter. It would tell Garrett Morris WhiteArrow was elsewhere and all calls to her residence would be routed to her earpiece, but her residence code would always come up.

"He won't find you until you leave. And when he does, you'll be far enough away from here."

She gave him a wan smile, then doubled over at the wave of agony washing through her. Garrett Morris was indeed Aidan's father... And hers... And he was about to unleash a similar feeling on his only son. But it would come in a different form... And it would be far more debilitating than what he did to WhiteArrow.

Emerson Jakarah: -the ding on her computer made her blink. Another message, great. When she opened it, she read it over, looking at the picture. So, this was Garrett? She tapped her chin, then sent a message to her unit, telling them that she would take the case, because Aidan now was one of friends. After it had been sent, she passed the image to her handheld computer, then put it in her pocket. It was time to leave work. She made her way through the building, putting the codes up as she went. When she shut the last door, she shook her head, since the headache was back. She was still limping around from the last fight. It had been rough and she had fought zombies alone. Thayne had been busy that night, and so she had worked another shift. -(c)

Emerson Jakarah: -Looking up at the sky, she saw the fog. It had rolled in pretty thick. People still kept on flying. She put her hands into her pockets, and went for Keegan's, to do one last look.- Rest under Cut.Collapse )

Subject:Two Faced?
Posted by:aidan_morris.
Time:2:13 pm.
When Aidan had uttered the name "Garrett" in connection with Emerson Jakarah and the Icove, it had woken something in the bowels of the city. Nothing like the evil that swept through the city on a daily basis... But it had ties to Garrett Morris. It came in the form of an Elven female who resembled Garrett in so many ways it was downright eerie. She prowled the streets looking for the man who had uttered her master's name, pausing when she reached a group of off-duty Night Patrol officers. They were talking idly amongst themselves, not knowing they were being overheard. One of them was Aidan's former partner, Bourbon Delfour.

"I am so glad I got away from that freak of nature..."

"Shut it, Ben. We know you didn't like working with him, but guess what? He didn't like working with you either!"

The female went to move on, but paused to listen. Her patience was about to bear fruit...

"What do you mean, he didn't like working with me?"

"You criticized him in the worst way imaginable, Ben! You insulted his heritage!"

"Big deal. Not like he didn't insult me. 'You're not Amar.' WHO THE FUCK CARES?"

The voice that spoke belonged to someone who'd seen the shimmer in Aidan's eyes whenever he spoke about Amar... It was quiet and cut through the conversation like a plasma cutter.

"He does."

Ben turned to her in disbelief, the others nodding slightly.

"That's insane. He doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself."

"You don't know him, Ben, okay? He's always on the outside looking in and Amar was the only one who saw past that gruff exterior he has to see the lonely man beneath!"

"How do you know that?"

"He's my friend too."

Silence fell. The female moved in closer, now curious as to who they were talking about. Ben shook his head angrily and scowled at the speaker.

"He's not even a man... He's a mongrel!"

Mongrel was a commonly used term to denote someone who was half human, half Elf. The female was now openly curious and moved to within a hairsbreadth of the nearest streetlight.

"He is so a man! Just because his mother was an Elf, it doesn't mean he's any less a person!"

"Don't you ever get tired of blowing his horn for him? It's always the same thing night after night. 'Aidan' this and 'Aidan' that! I am SICK of hearing about Aidan Morris!"

The female was stunned. Garrett's only child was alive and in the city? She was loyal to her master, but she had her limits! She put up the hood of her cloak so it hid her face and stepped out under the light.

"You who see Aidan next, give him this message. 'Blood is thicker than water, but it spills just as easily.' He will understand what it means."

The woman who'd defended Aidan knew what the stranger was trying to say.

"Where is he?"

"Hidden. But he will emerge when he thinks he has the upper hand."

The next question came from Ben and got right to the point.

"Did he kill Amar?"

Okay, Ben may not have liked Aidan, but a life lost was a tragedy! The stranger hesitated only briefly, then answered him.

"Yes. But he does not know Aidan is here. And I would like to keep it that way as long as possible."

"Why are you telling us this?"

"Loyalty is only as good as the person who inspires it."

And with that oblique comment, she was gone. In her place was a single arrow with a white feather on the end. One of them crouched near it and saw the faint shimmer on the tip of the arrowhead.

"WhiteArrow SingleFeather."

One of the greatest Elven archers ever to live in Mechanix. Until she'd been subverted by an unknown force and become one of the hunted ones. She'd left the arrow for Aidan as a sign that he had allies. The woman who'd befriended the lonely half Elf picked it up by the shaft and tagged it for delivery to Aidan in a thick plasta-sheet. She affixed a note with WhiteArrow's message, then sent it along the shimmer-lines to Aidan's. It arrived just as he was coming out of the kitchen. He saw it and the coffee cup fell from nerveless fingers. He knew that arrow... Tearing the note off the plasta-sheet, he read it almost desperately. It was a verbatim account of WhiteArrow's dialogue with the off duty Night Patrol! And it made his blood run cold! His own father had murdered Amar... But it didn't give a name or location.

"Damn you to the depths of the Nine Hells... I will find you. And when I do, I will kill you with my bare hands!"

WhiteArrow heard Aidan's heartfelt declaration and smiled faintly. The arrow would give him what he needed to do the deed... Or he would die a hero. She'd see to that! A copy of the dialogue appeared on Emerson's computer terminal with one significant difference: It had the heading "Re: Aidan Morris" and contained his father's picture, which when run through the database would pull up the file for Garrett Morris, not Duncan as Aidan believed. WhiteArrow smiled again, then slipped into the night. Garrett's demise was being carefully orchestrated, with Aidan as the instrument of destruction. When Garrett died, Mechanix would have one less villian to worry about. He wasn't the most notorious, but he was, by far, the most hated.

Two worlds had been sought after, and war had been put on them. He was the master mind behind it. Like anyone knew who or what he was. Many followed him for they knew what cruel things he could do, make, and say. Walking into the black room, no one ever went in there, for fear of what he'd do to them. His hand was read, and the doors open, so he could finish going in. As he sat down at the desk, he looked at the computers."Computer on, show me Mechainx and Delaclease." The wall lit up, showing images of both worlds, giving him what he wished.

Both cites had been tapped with everything he had wished. At any giving time, he could hit a button and see into peoples lives, work, everything. Right now, he turned his eyes to the south side of Mechainx. Seeing a group of wererats, that he controlled.Moving his finger down to a red button on the desk, he hit it. The rats looked like they had been shocked, and then waited for his words. Hitting the voice changer, he spoke into it, it came out as a woman's voice,"I want you to go down to Keegan's Work Out Gym. Leave nothing behind."The rats bowed, and took off. He hit the button, so he could see the gym now. A smile played on his face as the rats rushed in. The screams, the blood splattering all over the place. It was making him proud.

When it was done, he turned his eyes to Delaclease. Hitting another button. A few zombies waited for his word."Attack the park.Leave it a bloody mess."The zombies took off to do as he told. They left nothing but blood, fire, ash in their wake. When it was done, he leaned back, watching the screens....

Miskah curled herself up on the barstool, waiting and watching for Aidan to come to the club. She'd left him a link that she would speak to him, having an idea about his partner's death. It had amused her when he'd sent the link back in response, so startled that she was the owner of the Scarlet Desires. Hadn't she told him that before when they'd spoken? She thought so, but she was not sure.

I wonder how long he'll take to get here. He said an hour, but I bet he might be here quicker than that. Tapping her fingertips on the countertop, she waited... patiently as possible.

"You shouldn't do that Miskah, it's too risky." The bouncer was scowling at her as she finished tying up her boots. Her dark eyes lifted to study him a moment, then she lowered them again as she checked her shirt in the mirror.

"Thank you for the concern, but I think that as Nimir Ra, I should be fine. I can handle myself quite well," a darker look at her bouncer through the mirror she stood before. "I'm leaving the second in charge tonight, you will listen to his orders. If Stef or Lewis arrive, you will listen to them as well. They are Nimir Raj and I expect to have them treated as such."

The bouncer grumbled slightly, bowing his head to her. "Yes my Nimir Ra..." She moved away from the mirror and went to the door. Pausing at it to look at him again.

"What could happen? Just need a little time to think," pushing the door open she stepped out into the city's night and took a deep breath. How long had it been since she'd simply done just that? A walk to clear her thoughts.

The shadows watch, eyes always watching, they never move from the city, from the little group it had taken a liking too. More birds had been moving into the city, to be eyes, ears for them. A few people had been put under a spell to do what is asked.

Laughter can be heard late at night, during the day, all the time. Madness is a funny thing and it will spill on to the streets, into the clubs, along with blood.

For now, watching is what is going on.

He had packed up a bag with clothes so he could stay at Scarlet Desires for a while, since he knew he had to give up his home. It was going to be hard on him. His home was his peace of mind, now he was moving into a busy club full of kitties.

On his back was a back pack, with Ellie peaking out as he made his way up the stairs and to Miskah's room. Someone had said she wasn't there, so that made it better on him to go inside.

Immortal Pub was a great place to hang out. Most the time it was for vampires and kind a like. He loved going there, because the owner's of it, took a liking to him and now all of them had become good friends.

It seemed it would be a wonderful night around others like him. He sat down at the booth he liked and waited to see what the night would bring.

As long as there's no more accidents! Miskah thought as she walked down the steps and opened the door to the club. The rain was still pouring down, but the steady stream of customers coming in the doors told her that the night was going well, even with the accident.

Taby was upstairs in her room by now, two of the others with her and the poor fellow had been taken away to the were hosipital. Sad that they would need one in the city, but there was numerous werefolk about that just didn't heal like a normal folk would. So it called for the hospital.

Brushing her hair back over her shoulder, she walked over to the bar counter and leaned there. Why not take a bit of time to survey the crowd and see who all came inside tonight?
